Work Related Learning (WRL)

Work Related Learning

Work Related Learning (WRL) is defined as: "planned activity that uses the context of work to develop knowledge, skills and understanding useful in work…” (QCA)

WRL is a comprehensive and programme offered to education establishments. The aim is to ensure young people get the appropriate information, advice and guidance and careers advice so they leave education with the skills they need to achieve their career aspirations. The events are supported by a wide variety of local and national employers.

Work related learning activities have considerable benefits for both students and employers who support these events. The activities allow students to understand the relevance of their school subjects to working life and inspires them to succeed at school to gain employability skills and achieve their future goals.

For employers, getting involved offers opportunities to promote their organisation in the local community and provides training and development opportunities for their staff. It offers employers the opportunity to input into the school curriculum and ensure that future employees have the skills employers are looking for.

These Education and Business Services for Schools have been developed in partnerships with Schools, Colleges, Businesses and Employers, to provide a range of high quality Work-Related/ WorkExperience learning activities for learners and staff in Schools (Secondary, Sixth form, Academies and SEN)

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the world of work.

This can include: Apprenticeship Training, Vocational Education, Technical Education, Technical-Vocational Education (TVE), Occupational Education (OE), Vocational Education and Training (VET), Professional and Vocational Education (PVE), Career and Technical Education (CTE), Workforce Education (WE), Workplace Education (WE), etc.
Technical Education

Technical Education mainly refers to theoretical vocational preparation of students for jobs involving applied science and modern technology. It emphasizes the understanding of basic principles of science and mathematics and their practical applications, rather than the actual attainment of proficiency in manual skills as is the case with vocational education. The goal of technical education is to prepare graduates for occupations that are classified above the skilled crafts.
Vocational Education

Vocational Education and training prepares learners for jobs that are based in manual or practical activities, traditionally non-theoretical and totally related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation, hence the term, in which the learner participates. Vocational education is usually considered part of the formal education system. Vocational training is better linked to the labour market and employment development system.
TVET

TVET is an important educational sector that directly influences the sustainability of society, economy and environment. TVET aims at developing values, work ethics, lifelong learning skills, occupational knowledge and skills to conduct sustainable practices in the workplace. Additionally, TVET exerts a strong influence in increasing sustainability of communities by increasing employability and by developing entrepreneurial skills that lead to self-employment and job creation. The acquisition of life skills is an important Education for All (EFA) goal.

As part of its portfolio EBSI offers TVET through the following programmes all of which can be tailored to suit the learning group or individual’s needs.

Employability Skills
Mock Interviews
Career Preparation
Work Experience
Apprenticeship Brokerage
Entrepreneurship

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

The Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance ( CEIAG ) package is delivered through two components — Careers Education and Career Guidance, both of which are underpinned by unbiased, impartial information. CEIAG will be an integral part of the curriculum programme providing the learner with a planned and co-ordinated range of activities that will enable them to deal with choices and transitions related to their future education, training, employment and life as an adult member of society.

The programme is delivered to individual learners or small groups with the tasks covered by a qualified CEAIG Advisor and employers, who will provide the expertise in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance ( CEIAG ).

It will help all learners to develop their capacity to make decisions. It will also develop their personal qualities to enable them to live satisfying and effective lives in a changing society in which paid employment is a part.

EBSI at JFS Technology Industry Day

EBSI provide Engineering workshops at JFS Technology Industry Day

Year 9 students at JFS were given the opportunity to try out their engineering skills by making furniture and shelters out of newspaper.

Using Stixx machines sheets of newspaper are rolled and glued into rods which are then joined using cable ties to make a variety of constructions.

Students either made items which could be sold in IKEA or temporary shelters.
